"I CHANGE and do my best to provide planet-friendly cleaning solutions and to explain the impact each of us has on our personal and global environments."

—Steve Zeitler, Co-Founder for Citra Solv natural cleaning products

As a parent and as a business owner, I have no choice but to care about climate change. I am an advocate for environmental education and do what I can to lead by example—especially in the area of environmental responsibility. It’s important to explain the impact each of us can have on our personal and global environments so that this knowledge can lead to individual changes that cumulatively will make a bigger difference. Everything we do and use at home and at Citra Solv has potential repercussions to impact climate change, so we make it a point to find products and suppliers who share our same commitment. Sometimes, we’re faced with choices that may not be the most convenient or cost-effective, but that’s just the point: every choice we make matters.

An action we take to mitigate the effects of climate change is to have everyone to be able to relate and learn from our story. Living in Connecticut, we are witnessing climate change firsthand. From the extreme winters to more frequent hurricanes and severe storms, there’s definitely been change. We’re doing our best to combat that. Long ago Citra Solv implemented recycled and recyclable packaging that led the way to our current up-cycling efforts. We also recognized the importance of adopting practices and policies to reduce our carbon footprint and have been working toward that goal—for example our offices use 100% wind power electricity. Our offices are ‘green,’ and our products are consistently rated environmentally friendly (we like to say ‘all of our products are green, even the orange ones’). Our concentrate and liquid dish soap products are USDA Biobased Certified.

A “Biobased product” is composed, in whole or significant part, of biological products or renewable domestic agricultural products. Biobased products add value to renewable agriculture commodities, create jobs in rural communities, and decrease the reliance on non-renewable petroleum. Choosing biobased products is better for the planet and the USDA uses independent labs to verify and monitor all biobased amount claims, so you can also feel secure in the accuracy of the biobased amount.

One of our environmental educational efforts is a friendly comic strip. Our Rustle The Leaf comic strip provides engaging, thought-provoking, conversation-starting information about the challenges facing our environment and our society, all from the perspective of Rustle The Leaf and his friends. It is meant to support and inspire those people who are already concerned with environmental issues as well as to educate those who aren't.

In addition to the comic strip, Rustle The Leaf offers wonderful lesson plans that focus on Earth Science and Environmental subjects for school children ages K-12. All of this information is available free of charge to individuals, schoolteachers and non-profit groups. We are proud to sponsor this wonderful Environmental Educational Outreach Program. We encourage you to visit (and share) Rustle The Leaf.

We invite you to share with us your thoughts on climate change and the actions you are taking. We also invite you to ask us any questions you may have creating environmental friendly product solutions.
